base camp

for Outward Church

Based on interaction with Pastor Matt, a dedicated time of clarity, focus, and strategic planning is a recommended next step. I call this BASE CAMP. This is a facilitated engagement for your leadership with expected outcomes of crystal clear core values, next steps, and benchmarks for your ministry team and church. During the last Segment, we will turn focus toward capital campaign planning through the lens of your current environment.

Below, I have built a draft agenda below. I often adapt in real time as conversation in the room takes us to unexpected priorities; but it’s important to have a road map to start with. Also, for the sake of progress, I strive for “80%” - in other words, we do not have to arrive at a full 100% solution to the topic, but did we get through the hard stuff and now have clarity on the big picture?

SEGMENT ONE:

Next Step options

Who’s in the Room?

Apart from specific title/role on the team, who helps you think strategically? who processes the big picture and can deal with the minutia later? Consider inviting them. Elders, executive level staff.

Also very common for a session at the end to bring in all staff for a time of “here’s what we’ve worked on, help us see what’s missing OR give us some feedback”.

I will tell you that once the room grows past 10-12 voices, it gets difficult to land conversations/topics.

Where/When?

Offsite is viable and helpful, but not necessary. Renting a conference room nearby or meeting at someone’s house that has a large living room space can work just as well. But we can function in the kids auditorium at church if we need to. The time needs to be guarded. We’ll have breaks to check phone/email, but the higher mental/emotional engagement, the better the outcome.

I’ll run at your pace, but here’s a couple of options to start with; who needs to be in the room could drive some of the schedule.

Option: Sunday afternoon, segment one. Monday morning, segment two. Monday afternoon, segment three. Dinner with spouses to end and celebrate. (I would arrive on Saturday and grab dinner with whoever on the team, attend morning services so I can get a feel for the church firsthand).

Or any variation over a two day stretch that works for you.

Your Investment.

$3,500 plus travel (airfare, rental car, housing).

ABOUT MINISTRY RENEWAL

Experience. As pastors in the local church, our team has stood where you stand now. We have each led our congregations through capital campaigns. Add to that, each of us have been guiding churches through capital campaigns for a decade or more.

  • 15 years, serving as Youth, Lead, and Executive Pastor

  • I started Ministry Renewal in 2013 to help churches love capital campaigns and equip churches in deeper biblical generosity.

  • Beyond just coaching my sons, I’ve had so much fun coaching the sport of baseball. Simply, I just love coaching teams to accomplish more than they thought possible.

WHAT MINISTRY RENEWAL WILL DO

Context Matters. Your church is unique. Ministry Renewal will become a student of your church, culture, and context.

Customized Process. The best practices filtered through your uniqueness. The value of knowing which experiences are relevant for your church.

  • We need to have an accurate understanding of today’s reality. Qualitative and quantitive elements will inform our process.

  • I’ll bring best practices and foundational values to expanding generosity. We will work together to filter the options through your church culture and context.

  • Certainly, we will build a plan. And then work the plan. But you’ll be prepared for every step along the journey.

WHAT will your team RECEIVE

Confidence. When the anxiety and unnecessary components are removed, your leadership will communicate with greater clarity and conviction.

Sustainable Generosity Culture. Your donor base will grow and your culture of generosity will multiply.

  • As any good coach would do, I’ll help you keep moving forward and taking steps that lead to growth and results. All while honoring your culture.

  • We will engage more new givers and retain more current givers. So that the work of Christ continues to expand at your church.
